Chura Matar

Chura Matar

Chura Matar

Breakfast is always a big deal at my house. It is especially difficult to impress my kids with a breakfast dish. But they never say no to their all-time favourite dish, Chura Matar. This dynamic duo of roasted rice flakes (poha/chura) and fresh green peas (matar) knows how to turn a simple dish into a memorable one. Enjoying special popularity in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, this street food can be very easily prepared at home, and has good nutritional value. Traditionally, garlic (lahsan) is also added to this dish. But I have refrained from using it here. The spices used add a hint of spiciness, and channel incredible flavours. All these spices can be added according to taste. The best part about this dish is its versatility; a lot of variations can be included. To make it healthier, some other vegetables can also be used along with peas. And nuts like peanuts (moongfali) and cashew nuts (kaju) can be included too for that extra crunch. While adding peas, it should be ensured that they are properly cooked and soft on the inside. Chura Matar might not look very fancy, but its delicious flavours more than compensate for it. It is surely a must-have on the breakfast menu.
